The ‘Busts’ series reinterprets the long-standing sculptural tradition of the bust through the methodology of photographic sculpture. Gwon Osang photographs human figures and animals from multiple angles, prints the images, cuts them out, and attaches them onto structural frameworks to construct the bust form.
As the planar images are assembled in different directions, they generate a three-dimensional structure that produces shifting visual impressions depending on the viewer’s position. In this way, the traditional sculptural format of the portrait bust is reconstructed through the contemporary language of photographic imagery and structural composition.
