‘Mobile’ series is a body of work in which sculptural elements composed of photographic images are suspended in the air so that the sculpture forms movement and balance within space. Gwon Osang collects or photographs surrounding images, enlarges and edits them to produce sculptural elements, and then suspends or connects these elements in order to arrange them within space.
This series develops in two primary ways. One involves sculptural elements that are individually suspended, forming balance in the air as independent components. The other involves volumetric sculptural elements that are connected and combined within a single structure, creating an integrated configuration. Through these structures, different images and forms establish relationships in space and together generate a single visual scene.
The ‘Mobile’ series departs from the traditional view of sculpture as a fixed mass of material and instead explores new possibilities of sculpture through relationships, balance, and movement formed within air and space.
