The men’s fashion brand Customellow, operated by Kolon Industries FnC, will launch collaboration products with sculptor Gwon Osang.
This collaboration is part of Customellow’s ongoing partnerships with artists. It serves both as a way of expressing the brand and as an opportunity for audiences to collect Gwon Osang’s artworks in the form of clothing.
Gwon Osang is widely known for combining two-dimensional photography and painting with three-dimensional sculpture, thereby infusing the traditional sculptural format with a contemporary sensibility. Although the artist has previously maintained connections with fashion brands—such as exhibiting works in well-known select shops—this marks his first full-scale collaboration product launch with Customellow.
Through this collaboration, Customellow will release ten types of T-shirts and one type of ball cap. The products directly incorporate images from Gwon Osang’s ‘Relief’ series onto the T-shirts. The ‘Relief’ series is characterized by images selected from magazines and layered together so that, although the work remains flat, it conveys a sense of volume. Just as the artworks themselves resemble patches composed of various photographs and paintings, the collaboration T-shirts also express the works through multiple techniques, including embroidery, printing, and fabric patchwork. The artist’s works function as design points within otherwise simple T-shirt designs.
In addition, the collaboration includes two types of notebooks based on the artworks, as well as seven art posters available exclusively at Customellow’s flagship store, Hongdae Printz.
Lee Dong-ho, brand manager of Customellow, stated:
“Since its launch, Customellow has regarded collaborations with a wide range of artists, both domestic and international, as extremely important. By sharing Customellow’s own taste with customers, we have gradually shaped the brand’s identity. Through this collaboration with Gwon Osang, we hope to present more diverse products to Customellow fans, while also offering items that feel like gifts to the fans of the artist.”
Gwon Osang commented:
“Customellow is a menswear brand that consistently attempts new approaches, and it is a brand I have long been interested in. Moreover, it is known for engaging in interesting collaborations with various artists. The Relief series is particularly characterized by its pronounced structural aspects, where objects with different materials and forms gather in a single work while overlapping one another. The point at which this connects with another genre felt very fresh. I believe the collaboration resulted in a very creative form of work. Thinking that these pieces will be sold as actual products in stores genuinely makes me happy.”
Meanwhile, Customellow has shared behind-the-scenes stories of the collaboration on its official website in the form of an interview with Gwon Osang. To commemorate the collaboration, the products will be offered at a 7% discount from June 18 to 30, along with online events such as the giveaway of stickers inspired by the artworks.
